Modern Apprenticeship
In Business Administration

 

The Modern Apprenticeship (MA) in Business and Administration gives people the opportunity to work and learn at the same time. This programme is intended for those whose role involves carrying out administrative duties with a considerable amount of responsibility. It is expected that the candidate will already have the skills required at Level 2. Candidates must be enabled and supported to undertake this programme by their employer.

 

Entry Requirements:

 

The Modern Apprenticeship is a work orientated qualification and candidates must be in employment. Learners will undergo a screening process in the workplace to match their job role to the requirements of the NVQ in order to ensure that there are no barriers to achievement.

 

Course Content

 

Embarking on a Modern Apprenticeship programme means taking part in structured training, development and certificated programmes in:

 

Employment Rights and Responsibilities - i.e. those of the learner and the employer - this forms part of the Technical Certificate and the NVQ.

 

City and Guilds Certificate in Business Administration - this aims to develop your occupational knowledge and forms the Technical Certificate.

 

Key Skills - you will develop competencies in the following Key Skills areas at appropriate levels:

 

  • Communication
  • Application of Number

 

NVQ in Business and Administration - this offers learners the opportunity to demonstrate the skills and knowledge needed in an administrative role, through the NVQ. This Level 3 qualification consists of 6 units which encompass a broad range of functions/activities from the Business Administration sector.

 

There are 2 mandatory core units covering the apprentice’s responsibilities at work and working in a business environment. The 4 optional units can be chosen from a range which includes:-

 

  • Health and Safety
  • Units covering general administration
  • IT User units
  • A range of specialist units
  • 7 of the Units come from Level 2 and one of those may be chosen or carried forward if previously achieved.

 

Delivery And Assessment

 

The Technical Certificate is delivered through taught sessions where learners can interact with other and share knowledge and experiences. The NVQ and Key Skills are flexible and take into account organisational work patterns. All learners will be allocated a Training Assessor/Advisor who will advise, support and assess them in the workplace where they will be required to demonstrate the required levels of competence to the National Standards. They will also be expected to produce a portfolio of evidence to support their claim to competence. NVQ’s and Key Skills are verified internally by College staff and externally by the Awarding Body - City and Guilds.
