Maintenance Operations

NVQ level 2

 

The course is designed for participants who wish to gain practical knowledge of a range of basic construction skills which is particularly relevant to those wishing to focus on property or general building maintenance. The skills include bricklaying, carpentry, plastering, tiling, plumbing and decorating with the learning process geared toward repair and maintenance. A significant part of the course, which has a maximum time period of 30 weeks, is a work based process. Initial training takes place in the workshop, which is specifically designed for this programme, followed by work based learning for the remainder of the course. Almost all NVQ assessment is carried out in the workplace and learners are encouraged to complete modules (14 in total) as soon as they have the opportunity. Once a week learners are able to study the theory of each module and also to develop skills such as ICT. All learners have the opportunity to gain their CSCS Site Operatives card.

Maintenance Operations - learners undertake training for a period of up to 6 weeks in the following:

 

  • Bricklaying ( includes slab laying)
  • Carpentry ( Ironmongery, fencing and 3rd fix applications)
  • Painting and Decorating
  • Plastering
  • Tiling
  • Plumbing

 

Key Skills - aimed at developing competence in the following Key Skill areas:

 

  • Application of number
  • Communication

 

Technical Certificate - develops occupational knowledge and a level of competence in compliance with NVQ level 2. 

 

Employment Rights and Responsibilities - including those of the apprentice and the employer; and the organisation, disciplines and representative structure of the industries that the apprentice may be employed in.
