The ITQ, (Information Technology Qualification), Level 2 is aimed at those who use IT in their day-to-day work across a range of IT applications at an intermediate level. It is suitable for those whose role involves carrying out comprehensive IT activities with a limited amount of supervision and working with some autonomy. It can be adapted for individuals who have higher or lower skills in particular applications.
Learners must be enabled and supported to undertake this qualification by their employer.
The ITQ is a work orientated qualification. Learners will undergo a screening process in the workplace to match their job role to the requirements of the ITQ in order to ensure that there are no barriers to achievement.
Learners will have the opportunity to demonstrate the skills and knowledge needed in an IT role, through the ITQ. This Level 2 qualification consists of a minimum of 130 ‘Unit Values’ (UV’s) from units which encompass a broad range of IT functions/activities.
There is one mandatory core unit and a combination of optional units needed to make up the required number of ‘unit values’.
Mandatory Unit Making selective use of IT |
Unit Values 25 |
|
Optional Units A choice to make up |
Unit Values 105 |
The 105 optional UV’s can be chosen by a range of units, 50 of which can be at any level. Therefore 55 of UV’s must be achieved at the level of the ITQ. This structure gives complete flexibility for the learners to achieve within their work role.
The ITQ is flexible and takes into account the organisational work patterns. All learners will be allocated a Training Advisor/Assessor who will advise, support and assess then in the workplace where they will be required to demonstrate the levels of competence to the National Standards. They will also be expected to produce a portfolio of evidence to support their claim to competence.
ITQ’s are verified internally by college staff and externally by the Awarding Body - City &Guilds
The ITQ provides a competence base on which progression can be made. The ITQ will allow for progression to and from City &Guilds existing portfolio of qualifications and will complement other vocational qualifications e.g. Business and Administration Level 2
