Foundation Modern Apprenticeship
in Accountancy

 

Introduction

 

Foundation Modern Apprenticeships (FMA) available in AAT Accounting, give people the opportunity to work and learn at the same time. This FMA programme is suitable for those who undertake accounting related activities.

 

Learners must be enabled and supported to undertake this programme by their employer.

 

Entry Requirements

 

This FMA is a work orientated qualification and learners must be in employment. Learners will undergo an interview with the training advisor/assessor in order to ensure that there are no barriers to achievement.

 

Programme Content

 

Embarking on a Foundation Modern Apprenticeship programme with Pathways Training means taking part in structured training, development and certificated programmes in:

 

Employment Responsibilities and Rights - i.e.: those of the learner and of the employer and the disciplines and representative structures of the sector in which the learner will work.

 

Key Skills - aimed at developing competencies in the following Key Skill areas at appropriate levels:

 

  • Communication
  • Application of Number

 

AAT Foundation Stage - the learner will have the opportunity to demonstrate the skills and knowledge needed for a career in Accountancy through exams, skills tests and building a portfolio of evidence.

 

This Level 2 qualification consists of 7 mandatory units:


Unit 1: Recording Income and Receipts
Unit 2: Making and Recording Payments
Unit 3: Preparing Ledger Balance and an Initial Trial Balance
Unit 4: Supplying Information for Management Control
Unit 21: Working with Computers
Unit 22: Contribute to the Maintenance of a Healthy Safe and Productive Working Environment
Unit 23: Achieving Personal Effectiveness

 

Delivery and Assessment

 

The course runs over two evening per week. Formal teaching techniques are used to deliver vital underpinning knowledge. Workshops are then used to assess a learner’s understanding of key concepts. Learners are also encouraged to use evidence generated in their workplace.

 

Career Opportunities

 

Learners who achieve all three levels and gain the relevant experience may apply to the AAT for Member Status (MAAT). It is also possible for successful learners to progress to Chartered Institute of Management Accounts (CIMA) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
