Case Study - Construction Centre

APPRENTICE CASE STUDY

Seventeen year old Corey Barnes left school unsure of what the future held, but always had an interest in construction.  He enrolled onto the trainee engagement programme at the construction training centre, mysteag and successfully went onto complete a NVQ Level 1 in Plastering.

After impressing the centre tutors with his skills he quickly secured an onsite placement with valleys to Coast's new build contractor Pendragon.

Both Pendragon and valleys to Coast we're so impressed with Corey's skills and professionalism on site that he was offered an apprenticeship and is now working towards his NVQ level 2 in plastering.

Corey said “Without the help of The Construction Centre, I would still be at home trying to find things to do. The support I received from staff was so helpful and without them I would not have found out about the placement with Pendragon. I was told I was being considered for an Apprenticeship whilst I was on-site when I was told i was being considered for an apprenticeship, i was delighted to be chosen.

It's meant everything and its been such a positive experience from day one. The Construction Centre and my Site Manager have supported me through the whole process and I’m learning new skills every day”

Corey was recently named Pathways Training’s Apprentice of the Year at the NPTC Group Student Awards Ceremony.
